Over het album
The challenge one faces when interpreting iconic songs like "In My Room," "All I Want" or "Here, There and Everywhere" is that there is no way to improve on the original recordings, each one, so perfect, so personal. This, then poses the question, "Why even record them at all?" I guess the answer, in the words of my good friend Richard Goodman, is that one must find a way to "bring the songs into one's own room." I attempted to accomplish this here, while still trying to maintain the purity of the songs as they were originally written and performed. The exception to this approach is my rendering of The Zombies' "A Rose For Emily." Here, I simply wanted to pay tribute to the original recording, but as an instrumental piece. No harmonies were changed, and the arrangement is based on the one heard on their (under-appreciated) album, "Odyssey and Oracle." (Larry Goldings in the linernotes)
